Rustic Tree Trunk Ornament

"One man's trash is another man's treasure." You know all those tree trunks that get trimmed off at the Christmas tree stands? Well, I just knew I could use those and my son's wood-burning kit to make a fun craft....this Rustic Tree Trunk Ornament. In fact, he was even able to help me make them.

Here's what you need: slice of tree trunk, sand paper, wood burning pen, ribbon, glue gun and stapler.

Here's how I made it:
Start by sanding the surface to remove any jagged edges and make it as smooth as possible.

Draw a design on the surface lightly with a pencil.

Draw over the design with the wood burning pen, applying more pressure to make the design darker and more distinct.

Be sure to burn in the date on the back too. When finished with the wood burning pen, erase any pencil marks that may be visible.

Staple or glue a loop of ribbon to the back and glue a bow on the front.

These ornaments took very little time to make and the possibilities are endless on what design you put on the front. It could be a very simple message like "Merry Christmas" or a picture of Jesus in the manger. So many possibilities...This is a great project for your tweens and older children to make too.
